I began absorbing how to teach as a child listening to my mother tutor special needs children. In my teens and early twenties I worked as a substitute preschool aid, including a summer at the Colorado School of the Deaf and Blind. I've helped children from age 4 to 2nd grade learn about reading with a focus on phonics. I've studied theology since I was 17 and co-hosted a Bible study for High School and college students in my twenties. I published a book in theology for adults and published a six book allegorical series for children and adults and phonics focused books in Spanish.
From 2015 on I have taught group and private swim lessons for ages 6 months to 14 for a pool and independently. I use a multi-method approach to incorporate aural, visual and tactile learning styles. My ingenuity in helping special needs students break through learning challenges and fears and advanced students leap forward led to the private lessons.
I began dancing West Coast Swing, Salsa and Bachat in 2014 and have had three years of dance team. I have helped adult beginners of all ages in all three dances.
I was officially diagnosed with ADHD as a young adult. My mother specialized in special needs with a focus on ADHD and homeschool me with adaptive learning. She had a degree in K-12 education and passed on techniques and tools to me. I was later also diagnosed with autism. I have extensively studied the overlap and distinctions between ADHD and autism and specific coping tools. I have studied communication and society and how neurodivergency affects all areas of life. I have been coached in the differences between Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and have applied both in learning how to cope with anxiety.
