Hello I'm Elsie! I have degrees in Chemical Engineering and Teacher Education. I have taught Basic Chemistry, College Prep Chemistry, Honors Chemistry, and Middle School Science. My philosophy of teaching is to meet students where they are in their learning journey and lead them in learning how science applies to their lives. I focus on how to approach problems not just memorizing facts. My favorite topics are stoichiometry, chemical reactions, and gas laws.

My philosophy of teaching is to meet students where they are in their learning journey and lead them in learning how science applies to their lives. I focus on how to approach problems not just memorizing facts. My favorite topics are stoichiometry, chemical reactions, and gas laws.
In addition to teaching, I have been tutoring students in Chemistry and Physical Science for over ten years. I use an inquiry based approach when working with students one on one. I work with students to break down concepts into more managable parts and guide them to put these parts together. I think one of my best traits is being understanding of students and their struggles with chemistry. It is important to validate that this feels hard and overwhelming to them before beginning to give them tools to make it easier. My favorite compliment from students is when they say I was so confused by my teacher's explanation but now I get it.
