I’m Sophia! I’m a CRLA-certified tutor with over a year of one-on-one tutoring experience, and I’m excited to work with you on any stage of the writing process! I’m a passionate, dedicated tutor, and I’ve helped students with every type of writing—from college essays to medical school applications to novels-in-progress. As a tutor, I read every piece of writing carefully, looking for the strengths already present in the writing. Students often don’t realize where their writing strengths lie, and by identifying and leaning into those strengths, we can really develop the student’s unique voice. After that, I help students identify specific areas where they can grow as a writer. The places that need the most work are often the places that become the strongest in a later draft! Together—through brainstorming, detailed reading, and specific feedback—we make the writing the best it can be. And if you don’t already have a draft to bring to a session, don’t worry! I love the brainstorming phase and have several ways of structuring it to make it richer. Or, if you have a draft that is almost finished, we can polish and perfect it together. No matter what you’re working on, we'll take your writing to the next level and have fun doing it!
In my own academic career, I hold a B.A. with departmental honors in English from the University of Oregon. There, I graduated summa cum laude, was the 2025 valedictorian of the English department, was the recipient of the 2025 Creative Thesis Award for my honors thesis, was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and was a member of the Robert D. Clark Honors College. I also have four years of experience providing thoughtful and supportive feedback in creative writing workshop classes.
I typically work with college students, high school students, and adults, but I’m also available to work with younger students if parents want to reach out with their student’s particular writing goals! Please feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a lesson!
