Hi, I'm Aria! I am pursuing a bachelor's degree in Engineering at Harvey Mudd College. Harvey Mudd is an intense STEM school, with a focus on the humanities as well. I grew up with a combination of homeschool and public school, and I bring the values I learned from each into my work as a tutor. Homeschool allows students to work at their own pace, which leads to deeper understanding. To emulate the homeschool structure, I facilitate discussion between me and my students, encouraging them to ask questions, rather than lecturing on a certain topic. Public school emphasizes speed of assignment completion, so I help my students keep the big picture of each topic or assignment in mind as they work, in order for them to stay on track in their fast-paced classes.

I have experience tutoring elementary through college students. My specialties include math (up to Linear Algebra and Multivariable Calculus), English, Chemistry and Music. For two years in high school, I volunteered for 2-4 hours each week as a tutor for math, English, and science (bio and chem). The most successful strategy I practiced in this position was connecting concepts with classwork. Instead of showing a student how to tackle a specific type of problem, I explained the relevance of the assignment and how the techniques needed to solve that particular problem could be applied in other contexts. This way, students were ready to attempt problems they had not seen before, instead of only knowing how to reproduce work they had already completed.

I am eager to pass on the academic and study skills I have learned over the years. I graduated high school with a 4.0 unweighted GPA in an honors and AP curriculum, and continue to deliver in my current college courses.
