When I tutor, I use 'hands on' lessons to help children learn. For example, I taught children to read by writing the letters while they said them, then making a book of the letters and sounds out of fabric and fabric paint. The method I use helps children learn to read with all learning abilities.
One student, was a grade behind in Reading and Spelling.{2nd grade} By the end of the year, she had been at and above grade level in Reading!
I tutored two boys{brothers} who were home-schooled in Reading and Math{2nd, and K} They always enjoyed coming for lessons! The 2nd grade boy learned his letter/letter combination sounds, and was reading at his level by the end of the year, much more fluently. He just need his confidence boosted and I helped him become a successful reader!

I use a combination of methods to help children of all abilities succeed. I use 'Ninja Math' where children do a daily short, timed drill, and go up in levels; my students loved these last year. I also use manipulatives, cards, dominoes, dice, and art to reinforce the basic math skills of addition and subtraction. Once children master these foundational skills, they will excel at the others.
