My tutoring is designed to be an efficient use of your time, providing exactly the help that you need. I will customize your instruction so that you have the best chance of succeeding, and your lessons will be thoughtfully prepared, reflecting your unique learning needs as well as preferences. I use a variety of teaching techniques including: hands-on, verbal, written, and digital. I can also Skype with you.

My teaching experience beyond tutoring includes 11 years in the classroom full-time with middle school students, three summers teaching Upward Bound high school students at Linfield College, several semesters with Central Texas College as a business instructor, and facilitating a Soft Skills workshop for the State of Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, small groups of between two and ten high school students have participated in my SAT Preparation Classes. I am licensed in Oregon to teach at all grade levels, and earned highly qualified status in mathematics and social studies.

Fun free-time activities of mine include: Scrabble, long-distance running, fixing things, collecting vinyl rock and roll records, and puzzles of all kinds.

Very effective teaching style

When I was tutored by Keith, the first thing I noticed was that he answered questions with follow up questions. This style of teaching made me understand the specific problem we were working on, but also every other problem of the same topic. Through this process I was able to grasp concepts and knowledge a lot more effectively, and it made my entire learning experience much more applicable. Everything that we went over is still fresh in head, unlike some other teaching styles where the information is forgotten by the student in a few hours. I decided to work with Keith because I had a midterm coming up and I did not feel the most prepared to take it. After two sessions my confidence shot up, and I absolutely aced the exam. I highly recommend Keith because his teaching style is very effective, and he is easy to connect and work with.

Adaptable, patient math tutor

Keith has been teaching math to my two boys, ages 6 and 8, once a week for the past 5 months. My boys love their lessons with Keith and have been improving significantly. When Keith observed that the whiteboard feature wasn’t ideal for my young sons, who are easily distracted, Keith quickly adapted, and transitioned to paper and pencil, finding a way to make that format work well online. I highly recommend Keith as a math tutor.
