Clients say that I am trustworthy, reliable, accomodating, punctual, eager to help, and kind, with a great sense of humor.

My tutoring is designed to be an efficient use of your time, providing exactly the help that you need. I will customize your instruction so that you have the best chance of succeeding, and your lessons will be thoughtfully prepared, reflecting your unique learning needs as well as preferences. I use a variety of teaching techniques including: hands-on, verbal, written, and digital. I can also Skype with you.

My teaching experience beyond tutoring includes 11 years in the classroom full-time with middle school students, three summers teaching Upward Bound high school students at Linfield College, several semesters with Central Texas College as a business instructor, and facilitating a Soft Skills workshop for the State of Oregon Vocational Rehabilitation. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, small groups of between two and ten high school students have participated in my SAT Preparation Classes. I earned highly qualified status in mathematics and social studies.

Fun free-time activities of mine include: Scrabble, solo backpacking in the Cascades, fixing things, collecting vinyl rock and roll records, Wordle, and puzzles of all kinds.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have taught two years of Algebra I to advanced 8th graders, and have tutored high school as well as community college students for four years. Clients routinely say that I teach algebra in a way that finally makes sense to them, eliminating any confusion.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I honestly love Algebra 2 and I know how to explain it in different ways and modes to satisfy any student. My undergraduate college coursework includes 1 year of calculus. As a refresher, I took Math 111 at Chemeketa Community College. I have tutored other students in Math 111, Math 112, Algebra 2 and precalculus.
ASVAB

ASVAB

I am familiar with the ASVAB test battery. I took a similar test - the AQT-FAR - as an officer candidate. My best experience as a tutor was working with an 18 year old army recruit candidate whose ASVAB score qualified him for every possible MOS except linguistic cryptology.
CBEST

CBEST

I took, and successfully passed, this test prior to entering the Master's degree program in teaching at George Fox University. My current teaching licensure in Oregon includes endorsements in multiple subjects, math, social studies, and self-contained classroom. I have taught 11 full years as a public school teacher in grades 6-8, as well as 3 years of summer school for grades 9-12.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a highly qualified teacher with an active Oregon Initial II teaching license. This license qualifies me to teach grades 5-12 in several areas. I do have a full year of experience with a self-contained classroom of sixth graders, and I learned much about those students, what works and what does not work.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I find it fun and easy to interact with elementary students. I draw my materials from multiple sources and can quickly, and informally, assess a child's abilities with math. When working with the young ones, we find many opportunities to apply my background and pedagogy of early math. Examples of such practices include: using flashcards for vocabulary and numerous activities with a multiplication table, including least common factor, proportions, and how to divide!
GED

GED

I have been tutoring GED students since 2012, most of whom are adults seeking to better themselves with improved job opportunities. The State of Oregon has approved me to assist clients participating in vocational rehabilitation. My GED students have a high pass rate on the test, including a score at the honors level.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught geometry in the public schools and have tutored high school students in this fascinating subject continuously over the past three years. My familiarity with the geometry curriculum at five local school districts makes tutoring time efficient and smooth.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have taught at least one class of prealgebra at the middle-school level every year for eleven years. Pre-algebra is a terrific subject to teach and to learn. Students get a chance to build a solid foundation for algebra, gaining insights while also practicing skills. I enjoy this time in a child's math development because improvement frequently occurs. Also, if it is taught well, prealgebra can be a strong bridge that gets rid of the anxiety that often comes with algebra.
Precalculus

Precalculus

My pre-calculus tutoring includes my experience with non-linear functions, advanced trigonometry that incorporates the unit circle, and exercises that explore the concept of limits, to name a few.
Reading

Reading

I have taught the REWARDS reading intervention program to 7th and 8th graders. My training beyond my college degree includes SIOP, an intensive language-based enrichment program, and several years teaching language arts and literature in two Oregon school districts. As a tutor, I use current assessment materials to determine the fluency, comprehension and vocabulary level for a student. I love helping children discover the beauty and power of language, both written and spoken. And finally, when working with students, we always find subject matter that is interesting, relevant, and age-appropriate.
SAT Math

SAT Math

Using a wide variety of source materials, and continually tutoring in geometry, algebra 2 and pre-calculus keeps me well-versed in the SAT content. I can fine-tune study time to raise a student's score from a prior test attempt as well as introduce a new test taker to specific concepts and strategies to achieve a best score. Most recently, I took the SAT test in January 2017.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

I teach strategies to help students use their time efficiently on the Reading portion of the SAT. Working together, we also uncover areas which need more practice. Most recently, I took the SAT in January 2017. I am continually learning more about the content and structure of the test.
SAT Writing

SAT Writing

Although the new SAT offers an optional essay, I do recommend that students practice and take this part of the test. Most recently, I took the SAT in January 2017.
Social Studies

Social Studies

I am highly qualified under federal guidelines to teach social studies in Oregon for grades 5-12. I am a liberal arts major, with a B.A. in psychology, and have pursued my passion for social studies by: regular reading of periodicals, (e.g. 'The Economist' and 'The Week') and by ongoing education, (e.g. 1 year of U.S. History and Native American History at Chemeketa Community College). I have taught social studies at Falls City Elem. School, Faulconer Chapman School in Sheridan, and at Dayton High School.

A very creative teacher!

My son’s session with Keith went pretty well. Keith spent time before the session to ask about his reading interest so he was well prepared. He tailored the reading content and designed comprehension tasks creatively.

Intriguing! He makes Math fun!

We focused on quadratics today. We went through some questions in my homework and we did the rest of the exercises in Kaplan. The questions that Keith raised to help me better understand from my gaps , and the new aspects to think of the problems were amazing! I look forward to having my next lesson with Keith.

Fabulous teacher!

This is my first Digital SAT Math lesson with Keith, and you can easily tell that he is very passionate, patient, humorous and experienced. We reviewed and practice the points that I missed at my previous mock test. And it was really helpful. Besides the concepts of math, Keith also includes some of the relevant knowledge in Physics, which made the question so intriguing and easy understanding.I look forward to having classes with Keith next week!
