Hi, I’m Kells! I’m a creative writer and journalist living in central Oregon. My journalism has appeared in The New York Times, Bustle, Fortune, and others. After graduating from New York University, I received my Master's in Fine Arts, Creative Writing from The New School, where I completed a creative writing teaching course. My short fiction has been shortlisted for The Masters Review Summer Short Story Award for New Writers, and I was the recipient of theOffice Fellowship in Santa Monica, California. My creative writing is represented by Trellis Literary Management.
My academic and professional careers put me in rooms with so many incredible teachers who taught me not only the fundamentals of writing, but also the magic of it: the way it can help us think and live a deeper, richer life. I bring that same spirit to my tutoring lessons with customized writing, reading, and editing exercises that give students the confidence to use the power of language both on and off the page.
I spent two years as a volunteer tutor at the Santa Monica Public Library. The weekly program, "Tech and Tasks," helps Santa Monica residents create resumes, apply for jobs, secure government assistance, and more. During my tenure there, I helped people of all ages with these tasks, as well as writing cover letters, essays, and creative writing. I even helped one of our students edit and self-publish a book of letters and photos.
