About John

Bio

For over 10 years, I've guided students nationwide to SAT score increases of 150-410 points, helping them land merit scholarships (Goldwater, Fulbright, National Merit, Presidential) and admission to schools like Columbia, UPenn, USC, and Rutgers. Beyond this, I've helped students identify undiagnosed learning differences (ADD/ADHD, dyscalculia, ASD) and successfully advocate for testing accommodations that leveled the playing field.

I've worked with AP students, student athletes, first-generation college applicants, anxious test-takers, and learners across every style and background. Students trust me because I see the whole person, not just a score.

My approach starts with a free strengths-based assessment where I map your learning style and motivations. I use this data and my intuition to build you a plan to get your results.

From there, I teach you to think like the test-makers:
* Question teardowns - understand what's being asked, how it's structured, and common answer traps
* Pattern recognition - spot your recurring mistakes and eliminate them systematically
* Critical thinking - skills that work across disciplines and beyond the SAT

I frame your learning in systems, analyze how you respond, and cheer you on every step of the way. You'll understand the underlying logic, learn about yourself, and gain new confidence in your own skills.

Background
I graduated Magna Cum Laude in Computer Science on a full-tuition merit scholarship (SAT: 1510, 99th percentile, AP Scholar with Distinction, $150K+ in scholarships). Today, I’m a technical product manager and software engineer, where I use the same strategic problem-solving to break down test concepts.

I love mentoring and have maintained consistent 5-star ratings across platforms. In 2020, after being recognized as a Top Tutor (top 6% nationally), I left the corporate test prep industry when I realized their one-size-fits-all methods don't work and I wanted I build something better.

Knowledgeable Tutor

John filled in the gaps of what I didn't understand; he covered Python concepts such as regex, methods, and class instances. We also debugged the code together to make sure the code worked.
