To my teaching-learning role, I bring a doctoral degree in Theater Arts/Performance Studies and two master of arts degrees, one in English and German Literature, the other in Gifted, Creative Learning. I also bring award-winning author experience publishing three poetry books, editing a published memoir, and publishing researched analysis essays remarked by literary, psychology, and medical journals.

With previous Eastern European and Asian IB World Schools experiences, and now as a US and International private teacher-tutor, I bring Examiner experience with IB Extended Essays and IB Paper 1s and teaching experience with IB English Literature, Theory of Knowledge, and Theater Arts Altogether, I serve US and International Post-Doc researchers, Master’s Degree researchers, College students, and IB, AP, Middle Years, and upper Elementary students.

My students enjoy the pleasures of literature and writing that combine left and right-brain critical and creative thinking that transfer inspiration, ingenuity and imagination to all other subject areas. The Astronomer, Carl Sagan writes how authors directly speak to us inside our heads. When students and I read together, following the Socratic dialogue of questioning, answering, and then questioning our own answers, we realize how literature gives us new, meaningful life. Students also receive individuated teaching-learning writing practices. Creative writing students published with Stone Soup, Scholastic, and various Young Authors publishers

Creative Writing

I have published a memoir with University Press of America, now curated by Roman and Little. I have published three books of poetry, one with Finishing Line Press and two with the highly regarded Kelsay Books. The memoir and first two books have received good reviews. Additionally, I have been teaching creative writing for Wyzant elementary, middle years, and high school students, some of whom have been published.
English

English

My Ph.D. in Literature and Performance inspired me to develop literature-based formative learning tasks to serve students' best performances. Given a B.A. in English Literature and Linguistics, TEFL certification, and English immersion international school teaching experience, I understand how language affects perception and learning to teach effectively EFL,ESL, EAL students at all ages and learning stages. My M.A. in Education for Gifted, Creative Learners with a focus on differentiated curriculum serves my lesson creations drawn from students' multiple intelligences (Howard Gardner's theory), Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Development and Torrence's researched-based practices for developing creativity.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

My literary and psychological essays have been reviewed and cited in high-caliber literary, psychological, educational, and medical journals. Since teaching/learning with Wyzant, I have supported PhD and MA admission and research essays, IB, AP essays, as well as beginning students' new practices for writing the Organic Unity Study of literature and essay-writing.
Literature

Literature

My M.A. in Dramatic Literature and Ph.D. in the Study of World Literature through Performance in real-life Cultural and Historical Contexts introduced me to theories and writing practices of organic unity so vital to our understanding, appreciation of literary arts, and personal and interpersonal growth. A professor of International Baccalaureate Diploma Program English A Literature and English B (ESL) Literature and Theory of Knowledge for over ten years, I witness how bright students are enlivened by shared inquiry discovery learning and enjoy developing their imaginations and their synthesizing of creative with critical thinking when composing oral commentary and written literary/rhetorical analysis. Their improvements inspire them as well as their high marks. With IB English A Examiner experience for the Extended Essay and Paper 1 Commentary, and with experience guiding TOK presentations and essays, I set high standards and show each person how revision questions and practices are key to improvement and meeting their goals.
Proofreading

Proofreading

A published author of research and creative work, I understand well how proofreading improves the quality, preciseness and conciseness of one's work. Proofreading is the composer's "Yoga Nidra" (a deep stage of rest, letting thoughts and feelings separate and re-integrate). Through proofreading practices, I have served many secondary through post doc writers, who seek improved grades, grants and publication. We aim for preciseness, conciseness, clarity, and to inspire our readers.
Reading

Reading

Reading is an art and a performance with authors that develops our imaginations as our creative and critical lenses improve. Through shared inquiry and experiential approaches, I have taught reading and writing foundational practices for primary through tertiary levels. All of my students have enjoyed reading more and more as they enjoyed the discovery learning that helped them to develop their imaginations, creative and critical thinking, and character-learner traits.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

My initial thesis writing experience derives from having written a PhD dissertation and two Masters' Degree theses. I have supported three PhD. thesis candidates: one studying history, one literature, and one dentistry. I have supported one Masters thesis candidate for Literature. Additionally, I have served as an IB Extended Essay supervisor and examiner for IB candidates who are writing at tertiary levels 4,000 word thesis essays answering specific research questions.
Writing

Writing

You will find my publishing career as an author of research and creative work detailed in my C.V. My career began with the invitation to offer a Young Authors Program for elementary ages 7-10, which that proved rewarding for both writers and me: one writer, for instance, discovered that, rather than being labeled an Attention Deficit learner, he was truly a high creative needing more front-end time to let his ideas coalesce; others experienced recognition of their creative visions of life through FirstStage performance of their collaborative dramatic work, "Six More Characters in Search of an Author." My career continued with many invitations to offer Middle School creative writing workshops with the Oregon Writing Festival. My university undergraduates and IB and AP students of writing benefit from my teaching of the following tertiary level courses: Interpreting Literature and Writing Commentary, Rhetoric and Writing Good Argument, and Research and Writing.

Superb tutoring

Ann challenges my two girls (8 and 12) to work with the kind of advanced writing skills and concepts that most students wouldn’t learn until high school or college. With such high expectations, I find that the girls gain confidence in themselves as the capable writers they are and they push themselves to improve accordingly. Ann not only has a palpable love of language and the craft of writing, but also truly appreciates the power and meaning of words in all communications. Ann has also accomodated our scheduling needs and, when time allows and the girls are on a roll, she always seems happy to work beyond the scheduled hour. The girls always end the class with an increased passion for their writing and often continue their tasks, or want to discuss them with us, after class is over.

The best IB English Tutor

Navigating the rigors of IB is not easy. Ann's methodology supported by a lifetime of purpose-driven knowledge and experience, has transformed my son's mind. Beyond academics, she holds him accountable as a human being. From the scheduling to the time he has to invest daily in order to really move forward on his expected outcomes. I recommend Ann to any student / family that are really looking for a partner that can transform the entire experience and mindset around language.
