My aim is to inspire research-based learning to bring out students’ best. A Professor of International Cambridge English A Language and Literature, International Baccalaureate English A Literature, English B (ESL), Text in Performance and Theory of Knowledge, a supervisor and former IB Examiner for the Extended Essay and Paper 1 Commentary, a Creative Writing teacher and a published author of research and creative work, I invite learners into the world of discovery learning through shared inquiry practices that develop their character-learner traits: curiosity, reflectivity, understanding, integrity, communication skills, compassion, principled risk-taking courage, and balance. They learn to be closer readers of themselves, literature and other people. Given the American poet, Emily Dickinson’s comparison between a frigate and a book, my students also travel. They explore both inner and outer landscapes as they engage in a great variety of cultural and historical contexts for creative works. They learn composing skills, such as patterned oral and written speech, from established authors. They also engage in a variety of personalized formative tasks to bring out their best performances for summative tasks, such as IB and AP exams, SAT and ACT tests. Learning how to learn, they realize how revision is vital to improved creative and critical thinking. Many of my IB students have received full marks or 6/7, and many present IB candidates significantly improve their reading and writing practices to receive marks of 6/7 or 7/7, giving them the possibility of university scholarships or Freshman English wavers. A number of my students publish either research or creative work.

To fulfill my aim, I must bring my love of language, literature and composition, my love of learning and my appreciation for the ways that students can experience meaningful and enjoyable learning. So, I study my students, learn their keys to learning, their strengths and their challenges. From my graduate study in Education for Gifted, Cr

Proofreading

Proofreading

A published author of research and creative work, I understand well how proofreading improves the quality, preciseness and conciseness of one's work. Proofreading is the composer's "Yoga Nidra" (a deep stage of rest, letting thoughts and feelings separate and re-integrate). Through proofreading practices, I have served many secondary through post doc writers, who seek improved grades, grants and publication. We aim for preciseness, conciseness, clarity, and to inspire our readers.

Reading

Reading is an art and a performance with authors that develops our imaginations as our creative and critical lenses improve. Through shared inquiry and experiential approaches, I have taught reading and writing foundational practices for primary through tertiary levels. All of my students have enjoyed reading more and more as they enjoyed the discovery learning that helped them to develop their imaginations, creative and critical thinking, and character-learner traits.

My Ph.D. in Literature and Performance inspired me to develop literature-based formative learning tasks to serve students' best performances. Given a B.A. in English Literature and Linguistics, TEFL certification, and English immersion international school teaching experience, I understand how language affects perception and learning to teach effectively EFL,ESL, EAL students at all ages and learning stages. My M.A. in Education for Gifted, Creative Learners with a focus on differentiated curriculum serves my lesson creations drawn from students' multiple intelligences (Howard Gardner's theory), Bloom's Taxonomy of Cognitive Development and Torrence's researched-based practices for developing creativity.

My M.A. in Dramatic Literature and Ph.D. in the Study of World Literature through Performance in real-life Cultural and Historical Contexts introduced me to theories and writing practices of organic unity so vital to our understanding, appreciation of literary arts, and personal and interpersonal growth. A professor of International Baccalaureate Diploma Program English A Literature and English B (ESL) Literature and Theory of Knowledge for over ten years, I witness how bright students are enlivened by shared inquiry discovery learning and enjoy developing their imaginations and their synthesizing of creative with critical thinking when composing oral commentary and written literary/rhetorical analysis. Their improvements inspire them as well as their high marks. With IB English A Examiner experience for the Extended Essay and Paper 1 Commentary, and with experience guiding TOK presentations and essays, I set high standards and show each person how revision questions and practices are key to improvement and meeting their goals.

You will find my publishing career as an author of research and creative work detailed in my C.V. My career began with the invitation to offer a Young Authors Program for elementary ages 7-10, which that proved rewarding for both writers and me: one writer, for instance, discovered that, rather than being labeled an Attention Deficit learner, he was truly a high creative needing more front-end time to let his ideas coalesce; others experienced recognition of their creative visions of life through FirstStage performance of their collaborative dramatic work, "Six More Characters in Search of an Author." My career continued with many invitations to offer Middle School creative writing workshops with the Oregon Writing Festival. My university undergraduates and IB and AP students of writing benefit from my teaching of the following tertiary level courses: Interpreting Literature and Writing Commentary, Rhetoric and Writing Good Argument, and Research and Writing.

Knowledgeable, patient, and inspiring

I feel very fortunate to have found Ann for my daughter's English class. Ann assessed my daughter's level prior to the class and designed materials tailored to her level. She uses a variety of techniques to teach in class and leaves homework for my daughter to practice and reflect. Her knowledge and scholarship is also inspriing. Thank you so much Ann!

Knowledgeable, kind and loving teacher

Ann is such an amazing teacher who is kind, patient, responsible, and graceful with extensive knowledge and caliber in language and literature. Ann is very responsible and passionate about teaching. She spends a lot of her own time to customize the writing practice to match with my daughter's interest and level of learning and give feedback to her homework prior to the lesson. In addition, she always proactively communicates with me about my daughter's learning making me feel my daughter is her only student. My 11 years old daughter had taken 5 lessons with Ann. she feels inspired by Ann's teaching and is more interested in literature. I feel very blessed to find Ann through to help with my daughter's English and would highly recommend her as an excellent English teacher.

Ann is very much into detail, that is great!

My son reads a lot and has got A in his English class. But he would like to improve his writing more. Ann starts with helping him make good use of words and sentence structures. All are practical and very much into details. She also assigns good amount of practice for each week so that he can put what he learnt in class into real use. As Ann mentioned, "I help my students learn how to learn", she really is!

Prompt in replying. Gives a thorough proofreading and ways to improve the paper

Proofreading an academic paper. She reviewed the grammar, sentence structure, punctuation and the flow of ideas in the paper.

Efficient and very helpful.

I only needed one or two sessions with Ann because my goal was to improve an essay I’d written in a previous semester. Ann had a lot of great responses and comments ready for our sessions and used the time we had together really well. She was sweet and lovely to work with. Really great, easy, efficient experience overall.
