My name is Teala (Tea-la) and I have been tutoring professionally for over 15 years. I began tutoring in high school working with fellow high school students and students in the school’s GED program during my free periods and I never looked back. I continued to tutor through college while obtaining my bachelors of science in Zoology and bachelors of science in Animal and Rangeland Sciences along with a Minor in Chemistry from Oregon State University. I then went on to get my Masters in Biomedical Professions, focusing in Veterinary Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University, and I am currently working towards completing my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. My goal is to make my love of science contagious to all of my students.

It is my personal policy to NEVER just give a student the answer to a question, instead we will take as many teeny tiny baby steps as it takes to get there. My goal is not just for my students to write down the right answer. My goal is for my students to understand why the right answer is correct and have the knowledge and tools to get to that answer in the future when I am no longer there to help them. We work together towards these goals through improving study skills, homework help, and complete step by step lesson review to find the source of the misunderstanding. My approach allows students to gain confidence in themselves and to help them succeed on their own in the future.

Over the last decade and a half I have specialized in helping students with learning differences and disabilities that include everything from dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorders, to veterans with service related brain injuries. Every student has their own story and challenges to overcome. It does not matter if someone needs help with high school classes, college courses, or GED.I have experience working with it all. Together, we can discover the greatest version of your academic self.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have 15 years of experience tutoring Algebra 1 students and can easily cover all topics including understanding linear, quadratic and exponential functions, graphing functions simplifying and factoring equations. I prioritize foundational knowledge, conceptual understanding of topics, and student confidence.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

After 15 years of tutoring Algebra 2 students I can easily cover all topics including understanding complex numbers, systems of equations, quadratic functions, powers, roots, radicals, and logarithms. I design my lessons around asking students questions that encourage active learning to improve student engagement and lesson retention.
Biology

Biology

In undergrad I majored in Zoology and Animal Science, then completed my Masters in Biomedicine and I am now a veterinary student. I have years of experience with not just academic classes but also through practical applications such as lab work, field work, and medicine. I prioritize not just knowing the right answer but knowing why that answer is correct. By focusing on foundational knowledge and guiding students through application of what they already know my goal is to guide students away from just trying to memorize a list of facts and towards deeper understanding of the material.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have a minor in Chemistry and 15 years of tutoring experience in the subject. I can comfortably tutor all aspects of honors, AP, and college chemistry including atomic and compound structures, kinetics, equilibriums, acids and bases, thermochemistry, and electrochemistry. I prioritize my students' depth of understanding, helping them know why an answer is correct to prepare them for unfamiliar test questions on the same material.
Geometry

Geometry

I have 15 years of experience tutoring Geometry students. I can easily cover all of the fundamentals of geometry including terminology, transformations, congruence, use of theorems, proofs, geometric constructions and introduction to trigonometric ratios. I prioritize foundation knowledge, conceptual understanding of topics, and student confidence when working with my students.
Homeschool

Homeschool

I am a veterinary student, who has bachelors degrees in Zoology and Animal Sciences, a minor in Chemistry, and a masters in Biomedicine. For the last 15 years I have specialized in tutoring biology, math, and chemistry for public, private, and homeschool students. I have worked with both workbook and digitally based home school curriculum, as well as written my own on a variety of subjects. I emphasize ensuring students have a strong foundation of knowledge to work off of as they continue learning. We're not just memorizing facts, we are working toward applying what they are learning to real world situations. I also work with students to ensure that they have strong organizational and time management skills to carry into the rest of their education.

Great tutor for College Chemistry!

Truly a great person and an amazing tutor! I struggle with Chemistry, and she is very helpful and understanding! She works very hard to make sure you succeed, and I can’t recommend her enough!
