Hi, my name is Richard! I received a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Central Florida in 2017, and continued my studies at the University of South Carolina where I received a PhD in Chemistry in 2022. In my early days of college, it was quickly apparent how much of a difference a "good" or "bad" teacher can make in a course. A bad teacher can make the course exponentially harder and likely giving you a sour taste in that subject. A good teacher can be the difference between surviving a course and truly understanding it. This particular good teacher in my case was my Organic Chemistry 1 professor, Dr. Miles. His teaching method was to help you understand reactions, not just memorize them; to support, not demean. After taking Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 with him, I wanted to adopt his teaching style as my own and help students through one of the toughest courses. In my tutoring approach, I focus on comprehension of the material, not memorizing names or reaction schemes. The goal I have for my students is for them to be able to teach me, because teaching is the highest form of comprehension.
I have over ten years of teaching, tutoring, and mentorship experience, with the primary focus of Organic Chemistry, either in the form of Organic Chemistry 1 and 2, labs, and MCAT prep. I've taught classes ranging from 20 to 200 students, and held 1 on 1 sessions, and have been awarded several teaching awards. In my tutoring experience, I tailor each session based on what is needed for more effective teaching and understanding.
Whether you are pre-medical, pre-pharmacy, or are just curious about the topic, I am more than happy to help get you across the line. I am easy to reach and quick to respond. With my sessions, I am available if you have any quick questions, or want to do a last-minute study session before the big exam. Please feel free to contact me further for any questions, or want to schedule a session!
