With 15 years of experience as a college-level instructor of philosophy, logic, critical thinking, and writing, I bring something different to English tutoring, exam preparation, and college admissions work. I have helped hundreds of students prepare for the SAT, ACT, and AP exams, and I have worked with equally many on college admissions essays, guiding them from first ideas through final drafts.

More fundamentally, though, I’d like to think I teach students exactly the kinds of intellectual skills they will need for their academic futures.

Whatever else it might entail, being ready for university requires that you are a skillful processor of information. When you think about it, isn’t that mostly what we do in school? We take in information by listening and reading. We reformulate and expand that information by analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating its content. Finally, we contribute to the web of information by expressing thoughts of our own in speech or writing.

Reading, reasoning, and writing—what could be more elementary than that? Perhaps not much, but neither can anything be more complex. What you are asked to do in college is to process information at the highest levels. The right tutor can help give you the foundation for getting there.

I especially enjoy helping high school and college students who are strong in science and math but working to improve their language arts and humanities skills. I can assist with a class, an essay, or the analysis of novels, plays, poetry, or nonfiction, or lead students through focused preparation for the Digital SAT, ACT, or AP exams. I have even self-published a book on the SAT.

When it is time to apply to college, I can provide even more help. I guide students through the admissions essay process from original conception and brainstorming through outlining, drafting, revision, and final polish, while keeping the ideas and voice unmistakably their own.

Wonderful Tutor

Kevin helped identify my son's weak points in his SAT reading and writing/grammar and worked with him to avoid making those mistakes and gave him strategies to use for the test. I definitely recommend.

Great Writing Coach

Made my daughter feel instantly comfortable and helped her with issues in AP Lang essay composition she has been struggling with all year. Kevin also explained certain rules of grammar in a way that made sense to her for the first time. Great teacher, very generous with his time.
