Vivacious K-6 literacy 'Science of Reading' tutor, 6 yrs of experience, currently on summer holiday and seeking a "now-&-then" break from gardening & baking. (I work full time for a top "in classroom" online company, and usually take summers off. Incidentally, this company has high standards and we are regularly monitored/assessed. Johns Hopkins recently did dissemination research on this company.)
Above all, I am a reader. I have always been a reader. I married a reader (PhD professor), and--together--we raised two readers, both currently in university, with honors. I have nearly 7 years in college studying Early Childhood Ed, Psychology and Sociology. But that was a decade ago... and now? It's all about reading for fun, and supporting readers. I have been tutoring online since 2019, for 20 to 28 hours per week. And here I shall stay.
My method is to meet the student where they are right now, in a 1:1 setting. We'll examine a few sight words each session. My lesson plan will be custom, based upon students' needs. Perceptive and creative, I can quickly assess students' strengths as well as areas of need. Thus, I'll create something tailor-made upon meeting the student. Since the ability to simply read pages in books is imperative, we will have lots of that (with Echo, Shared, Partner, etc). I seek the typical elementary school-aged student, although I am not opposed to older. I believe in the value of good, old fashioned reading--from a book--and will incorporate that as much as possible (via pdf & screen share). This will enable discussion (comprehension) and polish those skills of prosody.
We will have a vibrant time strengthening skills!
