I am Melissa D. I have my bachelors in Secondary Mathematics Education. I also completed 2 years of a biochemistry degree and 2 years of a mechanical engineering degree before I realized that Math education is where my true passion is. I discovered that I much rather enjoyed doing the bookwork and the math rather than the hands on skills required for labs. I frequently tutored my fellow classmates and found that I enjoyed helping them succeed, and switched to an education degree where I could continue teaching subjects I am passionate about.
I have taught subjects ranging from 8th grade math all the way up to calculus in the traditional classroom setting, but I have privately tutored elementary school students and college students in math as well. In my traditional classes, I mainly taught the co-taught students where the majority of my students were on IEPs or had 504 plans, and I routinely had to differentiate my lessons to accommodate all students.
Because of my background in biochemistry and mechanical engineering I have also tutored college and high school students in various science subjects, with my favorite being chemistry and physics.
