I initially was hired to work as a 5th grade English teacher after completing my BA in English. Working in a high performing school in a very difficult neighborhood, I wrote my own curriculum and was a standout teacher in both advanced classes and special education. In my second year in classroom, I was hired as the founding principal of the high school we set to create soon.
I spent one year training to be a principal, as I both handled the duties of an assistant principal while also traveling the nation doing case studies of high performing schools.
After founding the school, I worked doing teacher coaching, teacher hiring, restorative discipline, curriculum vetting, coaching in relation to curriculum writing, and leader coaching. I also handled retooling our school for online instruction during COVID.
While my school was very successful, I missed working directly with students, so I began online tutoring. Since, I’ve worked for approximately five years helping students from all walks of life with whatever they need—ranging from ESL instruction to AP classes, college application essays, reading improvement, and many other subject. As someone diagnosed with ADHD myself, I have also found specific success in working with students with ADHD. I also have previously attained ESL certification and have significant experience with teaching students whose native languages are Mandarin or Spanish.
I’ve found the greatest success with my students in identifying their mindsets regarding the content they struggle with and helping them find new passion and joy in relation it. I provide structure and joy to my students while we engage in deep discussion and rigorous practice.
