About Leon

‘He’s never met a stranger;’ a phrase I’ve been hearing my whole life. Communication has always been a forte of mine, whether it’s one-on-one or presenting to a group. So it was only natural that I landed in the University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication studying public relations.

Often times, a university’s public relations program is housed in the communications college. This was not the case for OU. My degree path was lined with a strong emphasis on writing and public relations theory. I believe that being in the college of journalism and mass communications is a perfect fit for public relations.

That program laid a foundation for potential growth in many directions. The first cobblestone on my career path was during my senior year at OU as an intern with McMahon Marketing. I’m fortunate to have that marketing experience as I got to create my own definition of how public relations and marketing differentiate (or don’t). Over the nine-month intern program, I implemented various online marketing and SEO tactics for an array of clients.

Upon graduation, I moved back to Tulsa and hit the networking hard. After a handful of meetings and referrals I landed a job as Account Coordinator at Propeller Communications. Propeller was only a year old at the time and I was their first full-time hire. The entire workforce was comprised of my two co-bosses and myself; we were very busy.

I am fortunate to work in such a small business as I welcomed a large amount of responsibility, compared to what is typical of a recent graduate. I planned and managed, ran entire fundraisers, built and leveraged relationships with the media, wrote a ton, dabbled in design and HTML, along with plenty of other notables.

All of that has landed me here on my career path. Note to mention what makes me, me; the 10+ years of competitive paintball, passion for yoga, chess, raising my German Shepherd, Elvis, and much, much more.

Be The Change,
Leon

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
