Hello! My name is Komal, and I am an English instructor with several years of experience teaching writing, literature, and critical reading at the college level. I recently completed my PhD in English at Oklahoma State University, where my work focused on literary research and analytical writing across multiple genres. I have taught first-year writing, composition, and upper-level literature courses, working closely with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds. In addition to classroom teaching, I have extensive experience tutoring at the university Writing Center, where I worked one-on-one with students from a wide range of linguistic, cultural, and educational backgrounds. This work has given me a deep understanding of the diverse challenges students face, whether they are multilingual writers, first-generation college students, or simply developing confidence in academic writing. My goal as a tutor is always to meet students exactly where they are and support them as they become more capable, thoughtful, and independent writers.
My tutoring approach is warm, supportive, and highly individualized. I begin by identifying each student’s strengths and learning style, then tailor sessions to what they specifically need, whether that’s strengthening grammar, improving reading comprehension, tackling essay structure, or revising a research paper. Because of my Writing Center background, I focus on guiding students through the writing process rather than simply correcting their work, helping them build long-term skills they can use in any academic or professional setting. I’ve worked extensively with multilingual students, international students, and students with varying levels of writing experience, and I take pride in creating a welcoming environment where all learners feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas.
