Hi, I’m Anthony! I have a Master’s of Fine Arts degree in Creative writing and a bachelor’s degree in English. I’ve long adored English and reading especially. I became known throughout high school for the constant stream of books I was reading. This fascination with fiction and the complexities of the English language led to my forays into writing and the ultimate decision to professionally study English in academia for my bachelor’s degree. Here, I took a wide variety of literature, composition, creative writing, and supplementary courses all of which I passed with flying colors and more. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree in 2018, I immediately chose to pursue a Master’s of Fine Arts degree at Oklahoma State University which led directly to more intensive study in literature alongside an intensive regime of many classes focused on creative writing as it relates to fiction and poetry and culminated in 2021 with my work on my thesis exploring death through a lens of humor, a 137-page work called Death Says Hello.

During the course of my graduate degree and to the present day, I have worked as both an English-Composition teacher at a college level and as a tutor in the Oklahoma State University Writing Center. This experience enabled me to assist students in a wide variety of subjects ranging from dissertations to introductory essays to creative works.

In this time, I have learned that at its heart, writing is a process that all students—myself included—refine over time and through constant effort. I always focus first and foremost on establishing understanding with any student I work with so that we may best address whatever writing or English problem they may be facing. This way, students can attain full comprehension of their subjects without blows to self-confidence and self-worth as I maintain everyone can be a writer.

I acquired a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing. This saw me refine my writing skills among both devoted peers and accomplished professors and authors that saw me explore both the conceptual side of creative writing in the form of literature, theory, and execution while also practicing it in workshops that saw my work reviewed by both accomplished professors and graduate peers. As an ultimate test, I submitted a thesis in the form of a short story cycle that explored death and grief through a comedic lens which was ultimately accepted and saw the acquisition of my degree.

I studied writing at a graduate level. This saw me gain significant expertise in English as a whole, both in creative avenues and in academic context such as rhetoric, analysis, essay writing, and the like. As such, my knowledge of English is extensive. On top of this, I teach Composition I and II courses which further extends my knowledge of English as a subject.

I regularly teach Composition I and II courses at a university level. These courses involve introductions to academic writing at a college level, rhetoric, essay structure and practice, and how to form strong papers on the whole. This is built to establish a baseline skill in essay writing that students can use in a variety of college classes across entire fields of study.

I have attained a master's degree in creative writing that saw me pursue and explore a full scale thesis in the form of a short story cycle exploring death and grief through a comedic lens. This education saw me participate in numerous writing classes, fiction writing workshops, and more that saw my writing skills refined among both peers and with experienced professors and accomplished authors in their own right. This experience in formal education is in addition to over a decade of experience in writing both long and short form fiction in a variety of contexts.

I have as part of my graduate degree read a vast amount of literature ranging from fiction to theory driven works and more. I have become quite proficient at both reading through subjects quickly, but closely, to better obtain a deep understanding of the text and what its author intends with their passages.

I studied creative writing extensively as part of my graduate degree and attained a high level of skill in creative writing as a result of extensive study, frequent participation in workshops, and significant work on a Master's thesis. Specifically, I wrote a 150+ page thesis consisting of a series of interlinked short stories that explored the psychological and emotional impacts of death through the use of the surreal and humor. Overall, I have an avid interest in writing as a general art, alongside extensive experience within it both creatively and academically for the purposes of writing essays, reports, and so on as a result of my education and degree.

Deeply knowledgeable, skilled, and kind

Professor Freeman is a college professor, with deep knowledge on many interesting subjects, and an excellent writing coach. He’s also very kind and I enjoyed my sessions with him very much. He helped with a research paper, by helping me to organize the material, write a strong introductory paragraph and improve my transitions. I look forward to our scheduled session next week!
