I'm Beverly! I graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from Cal State Northridge. Like many young people, I was interested in everything and couldn't decide what I wanted for a career. Having always enjoyed English, reading, and writing, I focused on getting my teaching certification from the University of Rhode Island. Later, deciding to specialize in teaching reading to dyslexic students, I studied and received certification in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Many dyslexic students have achieved success in learning to read with this method.

I have worked for over 25 years as a reading tutor for several Rhode Island school systems and privately. My students ranged in age from 5 to 65. I enjoy teaching in a one-on-one format. I will work with you or your child to customize lessons to individual needs and learning styles.

My method is to break lessons into small, achievable sections so that students can be successful. Then I build on the learned skills and reinforce the knowledge with lots of practice. But practice does not need to be boring! I use music, word games, and useful mnemonics to capture the student's interest and internalize skills.
