Students tend to fear English. They are afraid of being judged, of being wrong, of being unable to achieve the goals set forth by educators. My approach to tutoring is to reduce that fear. I have nearly twenty years teaching college writing and literature, both in a classroom setting as well as tutoring. My student reviews, both online and classroom surveys, have always outperformed both departmental and university averages, usually by a significant margin. My departmental reviews, conducted by university administration, have also been outstanding. This is not because my courses are easy (my classes are generally considered among the more difficult), but because students feel like they gained skills that will assist them both in the remainder of their academic careers as well as their life after college.
I have a passion for teaching. I actually quit a six figure job with the opportunity to take over as president of the company to return to school and teach. I love the "aha!' moment when students gain knowledge; it drives me. Seeing students use the skills learned in my classes to achieve the goals which they set for themselves, both in school and in life, warms my heart!
I genuinely enjoy teaching, and seeing my students grow. I want you to be able to achieve your goals, and will work with you to help you achieve them. I don't believe that learning has to be scary, and can actually be quite enjoyable. Let's take the fear away, and learn together!
