I am passionate about helping students succeed and genuinely enjoy helping others understand challenging material. I earned a B.A. in International Security Studies from the University of Oklahoma and a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. My academic background has required me to develop strong reading, writing, analytical, and test-taking skills. I was a National Merit Scholar and earned a top ACT score, and I scored in the top 10% of the bar examination. I bring these experiences to tutoring with a particular interest in helping students develop both subject knowledge and effective approaches to challenging exams.
My primary teaching and mentoring experience has been in higher education. While in law school, I served as a mentor and section leader for other law students, helping them succeed academically and professionally in law school. I worked with students individually and in small-group settings, helping them understand difficult material, prepare for exams, organize their studies, and identify effective approaches to their coursework. I also worked in law school admissions, where I gained additional experience communicating with students and helping them navigate an important academic transition. My leadership experience has consistently involved helping others learn, develop, and perform at their best.
My approach to tutoring is attentive and individualized. I pay close attention to how a student learns, where they are getting stuck, and what kind of explanation is most likely to make a concept click. I try to anticipate questions and needs rather than simply waiting for a student to identify a problem. I also emphasize teaching students how to think through problems independently, so that they leave a session with skills they can apply on their own. I am naturally curious and learning-oriented, and I enjoy working through difficult material with students and helping them gain confidence in their abilities.
