My name is Alex, and I am a high school math teacher at a college prep school in Oklahoma City. I have seven years of experience teaching high school math, during which time I have taught the following courses: Algebra 1, Algebra 2, College Algebra, Honors Geometry, Probability and Statistics, AP Statistics, and AP Calculus AB. I am passionate about helping students not only understand math, but genuinely enjoy the process of doing it.
I've taken an unconventional path in my career: it started with graduate work in political science at the University of Oklahoma, during which time I was trained in statistics and data analysis and went about becoming immersed in the broader field of math. Coming to the discipline from a different angle, I connect well with the students who don't seem to get it the first time around, often needing a new perspective.
(And since I do have a master's degree in political science, I also offer tutoring in American government, politics, and history.)
After finishing graduate school I was accepted into the New York City Teaching Fellows, during which time I started teaching math and statistics at the high school level. After moving back home to Oklahoma, I find myself ending my seventh year teaching math (and loving every day!)
