Hello there, I'm Rebecca! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with a specialization in Elementary General Music. Hello there, I'm Rebecca! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with a specialization in Elementary General Music. While I loved my time teaching in both public and private school settings, I found the most joy in my one-on-one music lessons. It was a chance to dive deeply into my time with students, tailoring my instruction to them for their greatest academic success. I will bring this same approach to our time together; my desire is to be your guide towards achieving all your academic goals!

I structure a typical lesson with three main sections: Review, Teach, and Support. I will start every lesson with a check-in on your current skills. This review will combine questions to help you formulate and share your perspective and skill-based examples so I can see exactly where you are at. We will then quickly move into learning new skills. I teach new information in a scaffolding approach--building from known to unknown through repetition, guided examples, and supported, student-led practice. With the last 5-10 minutes of our time, I focus completely on you and your educational needs. I will do a final check on your comprehension and confidence before leaving you with a list of advice or extended practice. This last part sets you up to retain the information we covered while also giving you a solid reference to return to between our meetings.

I offer tutoring for: General Music, Beginning Music Theory, Trumpet, and Elementary-Level Math, Science, Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, and Study Skills. I also offer Knitting and Proofreading services!

I have free consultation meetings for new students so we can get to know each other and set out our goals for tutoring. I ask that you please give me at least 12 hours cancellation notice if you need to miss a tutoring session for any reason. I check my messages every weekday and will do my best to respond within the hour. Please reach out with any additional questions, and I hope to schedule a lesson with you soon!

General Music

General Music

I have worked as an Elementary/General Music Specialist since 2018 across schools in central Oklahoma. My main objective was the detailed preparation of engaging lessons for my students, of which I've taught classes ranging from grades Kindergarten to Fifth Grade. In addition to my classroom lessons, I was also tasked with the creation of yearly performance opportunities that showcased all that my students had learned throughout the year. I also independently created and ran an after-school Folk Dance Club that introduced students to the dances and traditions of many different cultures.
Needlework

Needlework

I learned how to knit in high school, but began knitting regularly after graduating college. I have experience in reading and following patterns, as well as knitting in a "freehand" manner where I make up patterns as I go. I am comfortable in stockinette stitch, garter stitch, increasing and decreasing stitches, and beginner lace stitches. I am also very good at fixing pattern mistakes in the middle of knitted works.
Trumpet

Trumpet

In addition to regular academic applications, I auditioned successfully for both the Music Education Department and Trumpet Studio at the University of Oklahoma. I had daily practice requirements, weekly private lessons with my professor, and had to audition and be accepted to a performing ensemble each semester. At the culmination of my degree, I had to plan and perform solo recital as a showcase of my ability on my chosen instrument of study. Through this experience, I obtained a wealth of information on the process of learning the trumpet, as well as effectively teaching this process to beginners.
