I'm Ashley! I graduated with honors and a 3.93 GPA from East Central University in Ada, OK back in May of 2020. My degree is in English Teacher Certification. I was also a member of different honor societies on campus. I have lived in Maud, OK my entire life, but I graduated from Tecumseh High School in May of 2016 with an approximate 3.8 GPA. In high school I was a member of NHS.
During college I worked as a substitute teacher at Tecumseh Middle School. After graduation, I started my first year of teaching at Tecumseh Middle School in August of 2020 where I taught English Language Arts to 8th grade students. I did this for two years, after which I began teaching the same subject to the same grade level at Ada Junior High School. While there, I also took on an elective called D.E.A.R (drop everything and read) with a mixture of 7th and 8th graders. I worked there for two years. During that second year, I had my first child. In May of 2024, I left Ada City Schools to teach closer to home at Maud High School. While there I taught AP Language & Composition, English I & II, Speech for 10th and 11th graders, and Creative Writing to 6th and 8th graders during separate semesters. My final year of teaching is this year: 25-26. I will now be staying home with my two sons, but I still want to use my expertise to help students by tutoring online.
I believe that one-on-one learning is incredibly beneficial for students, but it's difficult to do in a public school setting. Teachers and resources are stretched thin, class sizes are too large, and too much emphasis is put on test scores rather than true measures of learning. My goal with tutoring is to help students truly strengthen their English language skills in order to succeed in multiple environments, including school and real life. A strong foundation in grammar and writing can help students succeed in anything they wish to do in life as well as offer creative opportunities they may not have thought possible before.
