Without a connection to real-life scenarios, education often loses its impact. This is particularly true in Agricultural Education, where linking classroom learning to real-world experiences is crucial. Without a connection to real-life scenarios, education often loses its impact. This is particularly true in Agricultural Education, where linking classroom learning to real-world experiences is crucial. For example, connecting plant and soil science lessons to greenhouse work helps students see the relevance of their studies.

My passion for teaching Agricultural Education stems from my upbringing, my own educational experiences, and my work with youth in agriculture. Over the past two years, I’ve mentored members of Perkins 4-H and FFA with their livestock SAE projects, reigniting my desire to inspire the next generation of agriculturalists. My experiences in FFA, showing cattle and hogs, and participating in public speaking and livestock judging contests provided me with valuable knowledge that I now pass on to my students.

Growing up in rural Bristow, Oklahoma, I developed a deep passion for agriculture, nurtured by my family. My involvement in 4-H and FFA furthered this passion, and teaching Agricultural Education allows me to fulfill a lifelong goal. I believe that Agricultural Education is valuable for every student, regardless of their background, and that it plays a key role in addressing challenges facing the agricultural industry. By diversifying Agricultural Education programs and including people from different educational levels and cultures, we can bridge gaps between those familiar with agriculture and those who are not.

Agricultural Education programs across Oklahoma and the nation are diverse, reflecting the varied needs of students and communities. Tailoring education to these needs prepares students for local workforce opportunities. In Bristow, for example, livestock production and agricultural mechanics are vital areas of focus due to their relevance in the community. As a teacher, my responsibility is to create a safe, inclusive environment where students can thrive and see the practical applications of their learning.
