Hello, my name is John. I have tutored for 14 years in various subjects. I grew up around Fort Smith, Arkansas. My experience with tutoring began early in life helping students in my mother’s class who needed help in reading and language. I found my niche in math and the sciences in high school. In college, I majored in Math at first and then switched over to Physics. I finished my Physics degree at the University of Arkansas in 2010. In my time in college I helped many of my classmates with homework and preparing for tests. After graduation I took a different path into working with inner city kids at a church in Houston. During my time there I often spent my afternoons helping students with math and science.
I believe that all students should have a healthy understanding of all the maths and sciences when they leave high school no matter what they intend to do with their lives. My style of tutoring involves meeting students where they are. I am skilled in different ways to approach any problem. Everyone’s mind sees problems in a certain way and my goal is to help the student understand it in their own way. I also like to help the student step by step at first to prevent frustration with mistakes. As they begin to grasp the concepts more and more I think it is best to begin to let them attempt on their own, and then help them find and correct mistakes. This allows their mind to begin to adapt to being more careful and giving attention to the details that can commonly trip up a problem.
To conclude, I am a lifelong learner first. I also am a lifelong teacher, I love to share and teach. I find wonder and amazement in the physics and math of our world and universe. I hope I can assist in any way needed!
