Learning math is about quantities and comprehending that those quantities represent a numerical value, represented by a symbol. At the basics, we learn math fluency by increasing working memory and utilizing ways to add or subtract quantities faster. Reading and writing are tools used to understand language. Comprehension is the analysis of the message and the ability to convey a message or dialogue with a purpose. Phonemic Awareness and the ability to manipulate speech sounds as well comprehend sound-symbol correspondence is invaluable to successful reading, writing, and speaking. I teach the science of reading. I teach multi-sensory math.
