Bible Studies

Bible Studies

The world of human religious belief can be both fascinating and daunting. I have devoted my life to the study of religion because of my enduring love of the sacredness of the human experience. It would be my honor to assist you in your path of spiritual scholarship I am a Christian who is committed to ongoing scholarship of the Holy Scriptures and of Church History. I also possess a broad knowledge of the histories of Judaism and Islam as parts of the entire Abrahamic heritage in which the Church shares. I have also immersed myself in the histories of the Indian, Chinese, and Japanese thought systems. These disciplines have taught me that there are real and important differences between cultures and people as well as needs that bind us together as a human family.
European History

European History

I serve as Chair of History at a local private school where I teach AP World History. I have also taught Cultural Geography at the middle and high school levels. I have written a thesis exploring the literature of travel from ancient times to early modernity.
Geography

Geography

I have taught Middle School and High School English and Social Studies for over 15 years. I have also developed a strong study skills curriculum applicable to almost any course of study. Many of my alumni tell me that they still use these skills in graduate work and professional life.

In my house growing up, we spoke "The Kings" English. I have 12 years experience in public broadcasting, so speaking, writing, and delivering correct English was what put food on the table.

I have taught handwriting both in a summer school and remedial tutoring context. I have taught to both elementary and middle grades students. My system of choice is the "Handwriting Without Tears" curriculum.
Hebrew

Hebrew

My major area of study for my MA was Judaic Studies at The University of Oklahoma. During my six years of formal training in Biblical Hebrew, most of my teachers were Israelis, either native-born or naturalized in early childhood. My pronunciation, therefore, is firmly rooted in the Sephardi-based style of Modern Israeli Hebrew. I have visited Israel five times since 1997. Two of my visits were terms of extended study. Most recently, I volunteered at Tel Hazor, an archaeological site in the Galilee, for six weeks in 2009. I have trained two young students for Bar Mitzvah and have tutored several established area Christian pastors.
Literature

Literature

I was raised by intellectual Episcopalians in their natural habitat, a New England boarding school. My father taught English literature. We had paperback copies of Shakespeare littering almost every room in the house.
Music History

Music History

My first career was in radio. Specifically, I worked for twelve years as a music producer for National Public Radio affiliate stations. My grounding, therefore, is in Classical, Jazz, Blues, and many forms of World Music. As scholars of Music History, we not only study the facts and biographies of composers and performers, we seek to know them as human beings who expressed and represented their own culture while exploring their world and society. Yes, Music is an important part of history, but it's also a great deal of fun!
Praxis

Praxis

I recently took the Praxis II and received the ETS Recognition of Excellence Award. I have been a classroom teacher for 15 years. I hold an MA in History. I have developed a solid strategy and tactical formula for taking online tests like the Praxis.

I am a superior writer and communicator. My passion is the interpretation of text for an audience. If you want to learn how to teach what you know to those who need your knowledge, I can help you find the passion behind the words. I will also train you in posture, diction, projection, and breathing. You will learn that, as a species, we communicate with our whole bodies and our whole being. Your discovery of your voice will be a fresh discovery of yourself.
