I tutored in the Monterey Bay Area (Monterey, PG, Carmel, Pebble Beach, etc.) and the SF Bay Area for many years. I tutored in the Monterey Bay Area (Monterey, PG, Carmel, Pebble Beach, etc.) and the SF Bay Area for many years. I started tutoring in the 1990s, and I have tutored several different versions of the SATs over the years (SAT I, SAT IC, SAT IIC, then the 3 subject SAT, and now the DSAT). I took the official SAT test in early 2009 (the SAT had 3 sections at that time) (I was already a college graduate, and yes, many tutors in Silicon Valley take the official SAT as adults to become more familiar with any subtle changes and to get recent scores), and scored a 2390 out of 2400 (790 M, 800 CR, 800 WR) in the normal time limits (no accommodations). I have also tutored the ACT for thousands of hours, enough to get burned out on ACT for a long time. I tutored SSAT and ISEE as well.
I tutored the LSAT and GRE some in California. I’d love to tutor the GMAT, especially the grammar questions.
I am extremely open minded and unconventional; thus, I do not have just one tutoring style.
I was a full-time Math Olympiads teacher at a private day school in Los Gatos, for one season.
I grew up in Oklahoma, but I ended up in the Monterey Bay Area because I was stationed there in the military.
I dropped out of law school (University of Indiana at Bloomington), in 2009, because of the Great Recession (I’m a pessimist when student loans are involved).
I write fiction for a hobby—I know many grammar rules and I know which ones I can skirt. I’m aware of many techniques of writing that aren’t mentioned in grammar books.
