Bio

As retired professor, I taught engineering and related STEM subjects part-time at Geneva College. Prior to this, I was a full-time assistant professor at the State University of New York (SUNY).

I have a track record of success in teaching students math and science subjects (including providing one-on-one remedial study), I welcome students who need help in mastering any level related science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) subjects.

In addition to teaching students physics, math, business, Microsoft office, and other specialized STEM courses in a classroom setting, I have done one-on-one tutoring for students who needed to pass their MCAT, or needed help with understanding basic math and physics necessary for them to excel in their full-time work and advance in their career.

Before moving into teaching, I worked for many years in the computer and high-tech industries in both engineering and management areas. Therefore, I bring practical aspects into teaching even abstract theoretical concepts. The feedback I have received from students all indicate that they appreciate this type of an educational approach.

I look forward to hearing from any of you that require assistance in improving your understanding of any of the STEM subjects, or just need some help in writing or proofreading a technical paper or completing a capstone project.

One final note: please be pro-active in seeking an outside tutor as early as you can rather than ask for help at the "11th hour" just before a test or exam. It is not fair to you as a student as this gives you insufficient time to prepare and puts you under pressure as does to any tutor (not just me) to try and assess the areas of deficiency and address them in any meaningful manner.

Thank you.

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

Education: • Solid math background that included graduate-level calculus during undergraduate and graduate studies. •• Solving differential & partial differential equations, Laplace transforms, matrices, line & surface Integrals, and exponential functions. Teaching Experience: • Applying and solving equations in engineering that require above calculus knowledge by using Matlab such as in electromagnetic wave propagation, mechanical motion, and chemical reaction rates.
Differential Equations

Differential Equations

I have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in Civil and Environmental Engineering. In addition, I have several years of work experience in multiple engineering fields related to design and developing products. Being successful as a product engineer, requires a thorough mastery of solving of differential equations since they are an integral part of applying engineering principles to product development. I transitioned from a career in engineering into teaching from 2007, when I formally started teaching math plus other subjects. Independently, I also successfully tutored students in math and physics. In student teaching, I draw upon real-life examples that help students understand the more complex theoretical aspect of the subject matter. I then use those examples to walk students through the analytical steps in solving a given problem. This has helped them master the concepts and do well in their formal studies or apply the knowledge successfully to their work.
Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

I have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s in Civil and Environmental Engineering with a focus on Renewable Energy, particularly Solar and Wind Energy. Besides having several years of product development experience in the computer industry, which requires intimate knowledge of electrical engineering, I currently teach students fundamental electrical engineering principles and show them how to assemble and install a working solar photovoltaic array that is tied to the electricity grid.
Finite Math

Finite Math

Finite Math: Both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees were in engineering fields. A key aspect of success in engineering, besides fields such as business, accounting and computers, is developing and honing critical analytical skills. It is based on applying the underlying principles of finite mathematics which helps solve every-day practical problems in many areas of business and industry. Finite math encompasses arithmetic, linear and matrix algebra, and basic probability and statistics, and increasingly today: mathematical modeling; all of which are an integral part of any engineer’s daily-use “toolbox.” Given my engineering background with a strong grounding in advanced mathematics (including applying logic and modeling to determine trends from big data using finite math principles), and in teaching math at a formal level, I have the expertise needed to teach students the needed skills to master this subject.
Linear Algebra

Linear Algebra

Both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees were in engineering fields, plus I have several years of engineering experience with several Fortune 500 companies …and more recently, formal teaching experience in several science and math subjects as an Assistant Professor. Any core engineering curricula requires mastery of linear algebra, not only in solving most mechanical engineering problems, but is also applied in calculus as a basis to solve systems of linear differential equations necessary for many types of engineering work. In teaching physics or math, I draw upon real-life examples to help explain more complex theoretical aspect of the subject matter. I have received feedback from students that they appreciate this approach and have better learning outcomes.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Education: • Solid math background developed from learning basic math topics of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus to solving problems dealing with advanced knowledge of trigonometry and calculus as part of graduate engineering studies. Teaching Experience: • Applying and solving physics and engineering problems that require knowledge of trigonometry either by itself or in combination of trigonometry and some basic calculus.
