Hello and thank you for looking at my profile! My name is Garrett and I am a Certified Public Accountant with ten years of experience as an Accounting instructor. I know that Accounting scares people; in fact, my first Accounting class scared me! But, I had a great teacher who made the class fun and interesting. She related the course concepts to real world examples. I was surprised at how Accounting affects my everyday life and how understanding Accounting concepts helps business professionals from entry-level employees to senior managers or even those who want to start their own business. I loved Accounting so much that I decided to become a CPA and passed the exam on the first attempt!

When I teach Accounting, I try to incorporate many of the same things that worked for me when I was an Accounting student. I use language that is easy to understand, and I use practical examples to reinforce Accounting concepts. I do this by spending time teaching Accounting concepts so that students can see how they can solve the problems on their own. If you are interested in pursuing a career in Accounting as a CPA, I will be happy to help you with more advanced courses as you complete your Bachelor's or Master's degree programs. And if your passion is not Accounting but you still need to pass Accounting 101, then I'll help you get through it!

Understanding how a database program like Access works is very helpful when learning other software packages that you will find in the Business world.

I am familiar with the features needed to audit Excel formulas, formatting the worksheet for visual appeal and to restrict data entry in formula fields, I use Microsoft Excel PivotTables to analyze data, and I have incorporated macros in a worksheet to allow for the submission of data via email.

In addition, I have taught a class on setting up, using, and troubleshooting Quickbooks for small business owners & bookkeepers. While I can't provide tax or accounting advice nor can I with on your data via tutoring, I can help you learn QuickBooks concepts and accounting functions using test data so you can learn how this software works. This will make you a more informed client when you bring your tax and accounting questions to the professional you work with on those matters.

Very Informative

I had my first accounting tutoring session with Gary about a week ago. We went through chapter 1 of my accounting textbook that discusses the Principles of Accounting. We discussed why these principles are important as you get into the other chapters later in the course when you have to make your own judgement calls. I look forward to more tutoring sessions with Gary.

We went over excel formulas and I loved how Garrett walked me step by step what each function is and how they affect the formula.
