My name is Cheryl, and I’ve been a teacher since 1988. I have my Master’s degree in English with a straight 4.0 GPA (all A’s), and a graduate certification in TESOL (Teaching English as a Second Other Language, aka ESL). My Bachelor’s degree was a double major in Music and Drama. I also obtained an Iowa teaching license. I have taught in these specialties to both high school and college students in the U.S. and overseas.

My Bachelor’s degree was a double major in Music and Drama. I also obtained an Iowa teaching license. I have taught in these specialties to both high school and college students in the U.S. and overseas.
From the age of twelve, I learned excellent vocal techniques from my music voice teacher in my hometown. Since then, I’ve been able to share my training with several private voice students throughout my life. I’ve also directed musicals and plays and prepared students for speech contests. Many of them went on to compete at the state level and got awards.
For example, in my speech classes I teach speech techniques and help students overcome their fears of public speaking. I got multiple awards from my supervisors such as ‘Teacher of the Year.’
I lived in the Netherlands for nearly 18 years, where I learned the importance of communicating in the local language. I learned to be fluent in Dutch and also acquired basic knowledge of a few other European languages. I taught English overseas in two different countries and won awards for my teaching.
Back in the States, I taught ESL to many international students who gained college-level English proficiency at The State University of New York and at Youngstown State University. I also taught three Dutch language courses at a nearby college.
In closing, I believe that I am a good Voice, Speech, ESL tutor as I have not only a degree in Music and Drama, but also a graduate ESL certification, fluency equal to a native speaker in another language (Dutch), and recognized experience in teaching these subjects.
