There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the smile on the face of a child who has never held a crayon and has just completed a drawing of their first circle (or spiral, or triangle or happy face!
I am patient and understanding. I believe the skill of literacy is one of the greatest gifts an individual can be given. My only rule is not to speak the phrase, "I can't" because I know that with a little hard work and a lot of patience, everyone can learn to read. When you can read, you can go anywhere and do anything.
I was blessed to have my son at an early age. I finished my 11th grade year online through a new program our school was offering. Unfortunately life called me to work and parent, so my 12th grade was spent doing just that. You are able to get your GED after your class graduates, and I fully believe it is so important to do so. I did exactly that in Oct. 2005. I went to the library, found the necessary materials, and enrolled to take the test (with some help from a few amazing mentors) Anyone can get their GED. Anyone can study, and Anyone can pass the test. It's about finding out where your strengths and weaknesses lie, and dedicating yourself to the task. Anyone of any age who would like a study guide and helpful tutor can find one in me.
