I have been a secondary sciences teacher since '05 at a rural school. There I am half the science dept teaching all of the physical sciences. I have been a secondary sciences teacher since '05 at a rural school. There I am half the science dept teaching all of the physical sciences. So I have experience across many subjects: Gen & AP Physics; General, AP, & CC+ Chemistry; Physical Sci; Gen Sci; Earth & Space Sci; Astronomy; & CC+Geology. My first love in science was astronomy, then it was geology, physics made me want to teach, and chemistry has become my favorite subject to teach. I have a BA in Physics, a MS in AYA Sci Ed, a MEd in Earth Sci Ed, and a teaching license in Physical Sciences. I have taught dual enrollment/college credit plus through Urbana U. and Edison State CC. I'm also a Chemistry Adjunct Instructor at Edison. My physics degree would pay more, but I like working with students- so I teach. The true joy of teaching is seeing students be curious and experience "ah-ha" moments. Teaching my love of science is my passion.

I started tutoring because I needed the money. I didn't think I would like it- I was wrong, and I often look forward to my evenings tutoring more than I do my school day. Some of this is because I like the personal interaction, but the bigger reason is that I get to work with students who are highly motivated. My teaching experience has given me the skills of not only knowing the material that I teach, but also how to communicate that material effectively so that students understand. Additionally, being familiar with so many subjects, I am also able to draw on more experience. One of the greatest skills any teacher can have is to not only know their topic and how to communicate it, but also to identify where students are and how to move them forward. Teaching is not a one size fits all situation and individual tutoring allows for personalization.

I would love to help you - whether you share my passion for science and want to dive deeper, are frustrated at a teacher who can't individualize your education, simply want to pass a test, or you don't know what you are stuck on and just need guidance - please contact me.

ACT Science

ACT Science

The title pretty much says it all. Outside of my teacher career I also host an ACT Science tutoring session every February and June before those ACT test windows. I also have been tutoring on Wyzant since 2020. The average ACT score at my high school is usually in the upper 20's both in the Science Reasoning scores and Composite test scores. Additionally, I have tutored all students to an increased Science Reasoning score and at least one student to a +10 point score.
Astronomy

Astronomy

I've been an amateur astronomer my whole life, have taught high school astronomy many times, have a minor and second master's degree in Earth science (which includes several astronomy courses), and have taught junior high in high school physical sciences since 2005.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have taught high school chemistry since 2005, AP chemistry 2012-14, college chemistry [100 & 200 level intro, general, inorganic, and intro to organic chemistry classes] since 2012. My college instruction has been through Urbana University or Edison State Community College at my high school since 2012 and also directly for Edison State CC as an adjunct since 2022. I also have a Masters degree worth of chemistry classes split between two different universities. I hated chemistry as a student, but it has become my favorite to teach and tutor.
Earth Science

Earth Science

I have taught the physical sciences since 2005 at a rural school. This includes teaching Earth Science as a part of an Integrated Science course. I have also taught Earth & Space Science in the past before the course was converted to align with a college Physical Geology class. Additionally, I have taken over 30 hours of Masters courses in Earth Science, Geology, and Science Teaching and I'm one class shy of completing that degree, which will be my second Masters Degree.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I teach all of the physical sciences including: general science, physics, chemistry, earth science, geology, and space science/astronomy. Additionally, I coach, or have coached, four academic teams with members ranging from 5th-12th grade. I regularly assist the elementary teachers in teaching science concepts. Elementary grades aren't my strength- I have tutored some successfully, but I will also be upfront if I feel that I am not the right fit for your student.
General Computer

General Computer

The title pretty much says it all, but I'll add that I am an avid user of technology with experience in sound & video editing, Google Suite, have been a Google Certified Educator, basic computer science, & office software applications.
Geology

Geology

I have a Masters degree in Earth Science Education and have been teaching high school since 2005. Not only do I know my subject, but I know how to teach it. I have also taught Physical Geology with Edison State Community College since 2018. Beyond teaching, I am a member of the Ohio Earth Science Teachers Association, a rock hound, and fossil collector.

Personable, confidence inspiring and knowledgable.

Listening in to my son's geology lesson, I heard him being 100% engaged and confidently asking many questions. This is a 180 turn from his school zoom class. At the end of the lesson, he had subject knowledge and he enjoyed the lesson. Couldn't ask for more. I think Eric brought out the best in him. I also know that Eric did homework of his own before coming to the lesson which is impressive.

An Amazing Tutor - Student Review

Mr. Sully was really great. I took a few session for AP Physics 1 and they’ve made me more confident and comfortable going into the AP test. His explanations are super clear and concise so you actually understand the topic. He’s also very passionate about teaching and receptive to answering any question. I highly recommend and wish I had book a couple of session earlier in the year.

Great Explanations

He explains things in away that makes it easy to understand and is very knowledgeable even when we jump to completely different chemistry topics each lesson.

Knowledgeable and passionate science guide

Eric has been a fantastic science (chemistry and physics) tutor for my entering middle school child. He is very knowledgeable on the subjects, and explains it well. He also encourages discussions about other semi-related topics like astronomy and ornithology, which help shape the minds of youngsters around a deep rooted interest in general science. We have had several lessons with him, and plan to have many more in the coming years.

Best science tutor

Eric S. helped my son a lot with earth science. He was patient and explained the material well. He is very knowledgeable teacher not only in subject area, but also in assessing student’s needs. I will reach out to him again if my son needs it.
