I have 20+ years experience teaching at the middle school, high school and college level. I have taught in Latin AP and IB program. However, since I believe that a class must be interesting, valuable and relevant in order for a student to succeed, I don't just focus on the grammar and vocabulary of Latin and Classical Greek. The valuable class also looks at the culture of the ancient world and how it has molded the present. The other element which is needed in a successful class is humor....

I have 20+ years experience teaching at the middle school, high school and college level. I have taught in Latin AP and IB program. However, since I believe that a class must be interesting, valuable and relevant in order for a student to succeed, I don't just focus on the grammar and vocabulary of Latin and Classical Greek. The valuable class also looks at the culture of the ancient world and how it has molded the present. The other element which is needed in a successful class is humor. This is more than provided by a look at history. I look forward to guiding you through the ancient world and its languages.

As to my qualifications. My Major in college was Latin. I have been the department head for two school districts, and have set up classics programs for three other school districts. Four of my student have gone on to become Latin teacher. I started my education career in 1987 teaching classes at the university.

The first question I ask a student is: There is a word in English which changes its spelling rather it is the subject, the direct object (victim), or owns something. It further changes its spelling when it is masculine, feminine, or neuter. What is it?

I have been a chess coach for high school. I have played competitively on and off since high school and college when our team went to the state and national team tournaments. I was on the team that took first in the North American Team tournament in 1974. Since then I have coached high school chess clubs and teams.

My major in college was Latin with a minor in Classical Greek. I have been the lead teacher of the classics department of a major school district with eight high schools. I have 25 years teaching experience. I have written journal articles on Rome's political and military tactics of the Second Punic War. However, recently my focus has been on Roman science and medicine.

I began taking Greek in 1986 at the university. I have continued to use it as a valuable resource in my research in Roman medicine. Greek is a far more grammatical language that Latin which made it a perfect platform for the Roman to express more detailed concepts and ideas. Example: Greek: κιονὰ τὰ τῷν φὶλων, Latin: amīcī quisque inter sē omnia commūnicant, English: friends share everything.
