I'm Kayla! I graduated Honors from Purdue University Northwest with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary with a concentration in reading. My college experience was amazing, because the professors always went above and beyond to make sure I would succeed. They made the lessons fun and engaging all while making sure that my individual needs were taken care of. This is the approach that I bring to tutoring. I do everything I can to create the best possible learning experience. I usually start my lesson plans by introducing material in a fun and engaging way, followed by explicitly teaching the material for best comprehension. Lastly, I like to give students a chance to practice the material on their own, providing feedback as necessary. Any of this can be changed to fit individual needs.

After graduating college, I became a paraprofessional, where I would work one on one with students in subject areas that they needed extra support in. I would also work with students in groups of five or more providing additional support in subject areas. In addition to working as a paraprofessional with students, I tutored during after school hours. During these sessions I would create fun and engaging lesson plans working one on one with the student. I tutored in the subject areas of math and reading. I did this for about3 years and its really where I gained my passion for being a tutor. I also have 2 years of substitute teaching experience. I am currently obtaining my tutoring license from the department of education.
