About Elizabeth

Hello! My name is Elizabeth and I enjoy teaching math: such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry and Pre-Calculus.

My knowledge base also includes Microsoft Office, Photoshop and various web development content management systems. (WordPress, Joomla and Drupal)

Math and software overlap in a variety of ways and I love exploring new concepts and new software.

My stats:
- Many years of experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages.
- Before working on websites I taught for Akron Public Schools as a sub
- Aced College Algebra and did well in Calculus
- Local & National background check processed and passed. (Not through WyzAnt, but directly through the Federal Government)

My Teaching Style:
Learning begins with understanding the client. What material do you need to cover? How do you learn best? What are your goals?

Once we establish those answers, then we can move on to figuring out the best way to cover the concepts and practice problem solving. With enough hard work and time I firmly believe you can improve your grade!

My Cancellation Policy:
If you do not give me 24 hour notice when you cancel I will charge you for the session.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

Besides creating webpage content: resizing, resampling and creating layered images with Adobe Photoshop, I also have helped design students put together a wide variety of projects to showcase their talent.

As a hobby, I love using different filters, transformations and plugins to create surreal photography. Photoshop is one of my passions and I would love to work with you to accomplish your goals.

Algebra 1

My knowledge of Algebra spans junior high, high school and college level. For years I have helped students understand how to solve equations, graph functions, master polynomials and apply scientific notation. I am confident I can help you or your student understand and excel.

Algebra 2

In Algebra 2, I have extensively tutored factoring, quadratics, polynomials, logarithms, rational equations, and radical functions. My experience also includes systems of equations, exponents, matrices, sequences and many other concepts covered in Algebra 2.

If needed, I do supply students with additional practice before quizzes and finals. My students are always welcome to call me or text me with math related questions.

When I started math tutoring I had no idea I would get into ASVAB tutoring. But I did and I love it! Each of the students I have worked with has passed the ASVAB. It's important to keep in mind that your score will not only impact your entrance but also your eligibility for bonuses and special assignments.

I have helped many students turn their geometry grades around. First students must know how to solve equations since this will be incorporated into many of the problems.

When it comes to building proofs I have found that it's important for students to first memorize the theorems. Then we walk through different kinds of proofs. Observing how different kinds of proofs are laid out really helps students grasp the process involved.

If needed, I provide students with additional practice on any concepts before quizzes or tests.

Microsoft Excel

My knowledge of Excel would rate intermediate. I have used Excel for my taxes, budgeting and analyzing political candidates. I'm comfortable using functions to perform operations on data and creating charts.

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is a program I have used for a variety of writing tasks: letters, resumes and all kinds of documents. My skills include formatting, page layout and saving documents with different file extensions. I'm also pretty good at yelling at the monitor when needed.

With ten years of experience playing piano and two years of music theory, I am prepared to tutor piano. Finger position, keeping time and key changes are important to learn in addition to reading notes and knowing how to find their corresponding keys. Music should not only be structured and challenging, it should be fun. I bring all three elements to the table.

When it comes to Pre-Algebra I try to break each concept down so it's easy to understand. Often I will use color and pictures to help students get the concepts.

Since Pre-Algebra provides a crucial foundation for high school math, it's imperative that students be able to work with integers, polynomials, proportions, know how to graph and solve order of operations. Each of these concepts will get more in depth as they continue learning. Math can be fun and interesting. :)

My experience in Trigonometry includes converting angle measurement from radians to degrees & degrees to radians, graphing trigonometry functions, reference angles, the unit circle and trig functions.

My strategy for helping students memorize the unit circle has consistently been successful. I always try to tie Trigonometry into other concepts the student already understands.

I had the privilege of working with Elizabeth when I found her while searching for an Algebra tutor for my 7th grader, "M". My daughter was so frustrated with Algebra that she really started to dislike going to school. She was confused, stressed and just fed-up. I cannot say enough about Elizabeth. She is patient, kind and somehow makes Algebra easy to understand. She knew when to "push" M and wh
