My background in tutoring began in high school, when I aided elementary school students with their homework after school in a personalized setting. After this, I proofread many of my peers’ essays in college. Most recently, I spent a year in a dynamic outdoor education environment in Colorado, using a variety of interactive teaching methods to give students greater understanding of the topics studied. As such, I have the ability to engage individually and identify key areas of English skills to focus on and improve in.
My approach to ACT preparation is consistent and systematic. I start by diagnosing strengths and weaknesses in relation to the ACT English and Reading sections, which the student and I turn into achievable goals and real point improvements. Essay writing is inherently different, but I take a similar approach to writing improvement. First, I identify consistent weak points in the student's work. Then, I show simple and repeatable methods to improve that facet of their writing skills.
