I'm married with one child, and I live in Ohio. Received my bachelor's in history from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2003 and recently went back to school in 2021 to get a master's in military history through Southern New Hampshire University. I've always wanted to teach but after a few years of in-classroom substitute teaching in all grade levels, career paths took me elsewhere. An opportunity like Wyzant is perfect for my schedule and I have the flexibility to assist learners throughout most of the day.

I believe social sciences such as history, government, political science and the like are best taught to be retained than memorized. This means getting to the heart of the matter in a plain-spoken manner so that the learner can internalize the key points and make it easier for them to connect those dots to previous and future lessons. I also believe that it makes them better citizens in the process.

In this era of AI and Wikipedia, I believe learners need to be taught how to wisely choose their sources. Part of my instruction will be to provide legitimate and verified source material whether it is peer reviewed journals, videos, texts, or audio so that they can both gain the experience of choosing primary and secondary sources as well as get pertinent information for the task or lesson at hand.

I also feel it is important for learners to be able to express themselves and their ideas to the instructor, especially if they disagree with an assessment. Learning to communicate, discuss, and debate, is critically lacking in today's society and I will encourage them to speak their minds, with the caveat that they must back it up with facts, not just opinions.

I hope that this kind of learning environment appeals to you and if you need help in any of these areas you'll consider me.
