Hello my name is Grant! I graduated Cum Laude from Wheeling Jesuit University with a degree in Biology. The curriculum included cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, developmental biology, and cancer biology. Labs taught techniques such as PAGE (polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis), protein purification, PCR (polymerase chain reaction), light/flourescent microscopy, and cell culture.
My personal favorite topic to teach is cell and molecular biology. DNA is something that fascinates me. The elucidation of its structure and function was not only a milestone in the biological sciences, but influenced a paradigm shift that forever changed the way we study and think about life! My goal is to inspire and share a passion to understand these mysteries. It is only in this mindset you can truly appreciate the magnitude and complexity of our very nature. We will do this by studying the fundamentals of physics, chemistry, and cell biology. This will allow us to build a framework to understand biological organisms and how they interact with their environment and eachother.
My current project is focused on identifying unknown fungal species using morphological and sequence based techniques. The study involves field photography, specimen collection, DNA extraction and purification, PCR, and DNA barcoding. In order to do this I have constructed a sterile lab space to grow fungal species using agar culture and view their features, such as cystidia and spores, using light microscopy.

Excited to explore the wonderful world of Biology with you!!!! - Grant
