Hi, I'm Iordan! As a mathematician, data scientist, and academic researcher, I've been teaching and tutoring for over 10 years, mostly at the college and masters level.

Hi, I'm Iordan! As a mathematician, data scientist, and academic researcher, I've been teaching and tutoring for over 10 years, mostly at the college and masters level.

The subjects I commonly tutor fall into a few broad areas. My mathematics wheelhouse ranges from calculus through linear algebra and differential equations, up to courses like discrete math, combinatorics, and abstract algebra (group theory and ring theory). In computer science, I specialize in data structures and algorithms in python, as well as leetcode style coding interview preparation. My statistics expertise includes basics such as hypothesis testing and confidence intervals to more advanced topics involving probability distributions, Markov chains, etc. On the data science side, I've guided students in implementing and training neural networks and other machine learning models in jupyter notebooks using libraries such as pandas, numpy, and matplotlib.

Whatever the topic, my tutoring style involves tailoring each session towards the things you need in order to learn at your own pace. Patience and flexibility are key to my collaborative style. My goal to have students grasp techniques and concepts while working through many concrete examples.

A bit more about me. My first teaching experience was as a college junior, when I worked as a TA for business statistics. Since then, I've taught all sorts of college math and statistics courses. My PhD research was in theoretical mathematics, and I've published papers in machine learning as well. Also had a stint as quantitative developer in the finance sector.

I've tutored calculus many times, and have taught the subject while working on my PhD at UT Austin. My approach is to help each student learn at their own pace while working through many examples. In addition, my style is informed by how calculus is applied to the real world via my work experience in data science, finance, and machine learning.

I've helped dozens of students get data science and machine learning projects up and running. Would be happy to guide you though regression, classification, clustering, decision trees, and regularization, as well as all sorts of neural networks used in deep learning (convolutional neural networks, graph neural networks, recurrent neural networks, etc.). My strongest language is Python, and I regularly help students with data cleaning, visualization, and analysis in jupyter notebooks using libraries such as numpy, pandas, matplotlib, scipy, scikit-learn, pytorch, and tensorflow.

I've helped dozens of students succeed in mastering differential equations. As a mathematician with industry experience, I'd be happy to guide you through any aspect of the subject. My approach is informed in part by my PhD research (which involved differential equations in representation theory and algebraic geometry), as well as the relevance of differential equations applied problems in data science, statistics, probability, machine learning, and finance.

I've helped dozens of students succeed in discrete math, as well as related topics such as combinatorics, probability, algorithms, and graph theory. Discrete math is one of the foundational areas of mathematics. Together with set theory and introduction to proofs, it forms part of the basis for courses such as category theory, abstract algebra, and representation theory. I studied the subject both as an undergrad and grad student, and my PhD in Mathematics used many discrete math techniques, especially in the combinatorics of root systems.

I've helped dozens of students succeed in mastering linear algebra. It's one of my favorite topics to tutor, and would be happy to guide you with vectors, matrices, linear independence, determinants, least squares, eigenvectors, eigenvalues, and many other topics. Linear algebra is foundational for other mathematics courses, such as category theory, set theory, introduction to proofs, manifolds and differential geometry, topology, abstract algebra, group theory, and representation theory. As a mathematician with industry experience, my approach is informed both by how linear algebra is used in higher mathematics, and its relevance to applied topics, such as statistics, probability, data science, and machine learning.

I've been coding in Python for 5+ years as a data scientist and machine learning researcher. I have been a teaching assistant and tutor for Python-heavy courses on topics such as Data Structures and Algorithms, Machine Learning, Probability, and Statistics. Python is also the main language I use in my work. My library arsenal includes numpy, pandas, scipy, scikit-learn, matplotlib, pytorch, and tensorflow.

Fantastic Tutor!

Iordan is a really great tutor! He worked with my daughter Sarah over the course of one full semester during her college Freshman year at UT Austin. Sarah wanted to get a head start in Sequence Series and Multivariable Calculus (M408D). She has greatly benefited from her tutoring sessions with Iordan, since he is very good at explaining problems.
