I have 19 years of teaching experience on the west side of Cleveland. I develop my own lessons to match the Common Core Curriculum in grades 3, and 4. I believe students should be presented with a variety of strategies to solve problems, as well as teaching students how to understand the principles behind the solution rather than just how to solve a problem. I am very structured in my teaching and have high expectations for all of my students.
My wife and I teach at the same Cleveland school. We have two daughters, a fifth grader and a 3rd grader. My oldest daughter is visually impaired, which provides me a unique view into teaching and learning mental math skills.
In 19 years I have developed and learned many unique strategies for solving problems in elementary math. I bring humor and real world situations into my teaching.
I have access to a myriad of common core resources and have received extensive training in the Common Core Curriculum.
My students come from a variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. My students consistently score above both Cleveland and state standards in 3rd and 4th grade math.
I would be happy to help your scholar strengthen a weak math foundation, improve in specific areas of understanding, or challenge a strong student to achieve even more. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified teacher in the state of Ohio. I have 19 years of teaching experience in grades 3-5. My school is departmentalized in grades 3-5. I currently teach math to grades 3 and 4 and teach social studies to grade 5. I have received extensive training in the Common Core standards and I represent my school in district wide math meetings. I have been nominated by my principal for the Greater Cleveland Council of Teacher of Mathematics Outstanding Teacher award. I have recently renewed my certification and have taken continuing education courses that emphasize common core standards and teaching and learning strategies.
