As a professional photographer since 1980, I have been on the cutting edge of digital photography. I was one of the first to go fully digital in Northeast Ohio in 2000.

I have created and presented "Digital Photography 101," which has been well-received by students from seventeen to seventy years old.

If you're eager to learn photography, I can help you with easy-to-understand explanations of technical and creative concepts. I also teach basic photo editing techniques in Photoshop and less expensive software.

Besides photography, I help individuals and businesses set-up their Social Media pages like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, etc. and provide tips on building a company's brand with these tools.

Contact me today to share what you would like to learn so that we can put together a custom program that addresses your specific needs.

Adobe Photoshop

I have been a full-time professional photographer since 1980. I have utilized Adobe Photoshop in my business since the introduction of version 3 in 1994. I have attended seminars and workshops in the use of Photoshop and have developed techniques to get the best possible reproduction out of digital files. Photos that are severely over exposed (prints appear too light) or under exposed (prints appear too dark) can be salvaged with some of the tips and tricks I've learned through the years. I am skilled at retouching acne, scars, droopy or closed eyes, removing objects from photos and even adding objects to a photo. If there is something you would like to learn that I haven't covered here, ask me and I'll let you know if it is a skill that I am qualified to teach.

As the owner of a successful portrait studio since 1986, I have handled all marketing functions including print advertising, direct mail, radio spots, sending out news releases, and design of our website. I have also created a smartphone app, YouTube channel, Facebook fan page, Twitter and Pinterest accounts to generate more business by engaging with prospects and clients. I have taught various marketing strategies to the Society of Northern Ohio Professional Photographers, Akron Society of Professional Photographers, North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce, Olmsted Chamber of Commerce, American Trade Exchange, Council of Smaller Enterprises (COSE) and more.

General Computer

I have utilized both personal computers and Apple Macs in my business since 1986. That was back in the days before the Windows operating system was utilized. I had to learn DOS (Disk Operating System) commands in order to use various programs. I was a beta tester for Eastman Kodak for a software program that allowed photographers to design wedding albums on the computer and post photos online for purchase. Although this is common now, Kodak was the first company to offer these services. I have learned many programs on my own and have the ability to teach others how to use programs they have never used before.

Knowledgeable

Mark was very detailed and explained everything I asked. Highly recommend. Took his time and did not rush. Has a wide range of skills. Excellent for a small business just starting out that needs help with social media.

John, 1 lesson with Mark
Tutor responded:

John - thank you for all your excellent questions regarding how to better utilize social media to grow your business... without paying the high advertising costs of Google, Facebook, YouTube, and all the rest. I'm also glad you inquired about using Photoshop to create advertising content for your business because there are far less expensive software programs with a shorter learning curve than Photoshop that I shared with you. To your Success! Mark

Great tutor

Mark's teaching style was just what I needed as a photo shop newbie. He presented information clearly and was able to follow my flight of ideas and endless random questions very patiently. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn photoshop.

Joyce, 1 lesson with Mark
Tutor responded:

Joyce - it was a pleasure to "ride your roller coaster" of questions - zigzagging from one, sometimes unrelated, question to another! It was actually quite easy tutoring you in that fashion because many of my work days require my using a variety of computer programs to edit photos, create a video, update a PowerPoint presentation, etc. - often on a moment's notice. I'm glad my teaching approach aligned with your learning style.
