I am currently a student at Youngstown State University, and my major is Language Arts Education (Grades 7-12). My coursework and interests have given me an extensive background in literary analysis, essay writing, and social studies. Starting later this semester, I will also be doing field work in education, which will give me experience in a classroom setting rather than the one-on-one tutoring that I am most familiar with.
In the past, I have tutored several local students from 6th grade to college as a volunteer experience. A lot of my past tutoring has also involved those who are in honors and college credit programs. Some courses that I've tutored students in are U.S. History, World History, American Government, Language Arts, and Human Geography. I have also tutored in some lower grade levels of Mathematics and Science, though they are not my preferred subjects.
Throughout my tutoring, I work with the learning style of the student. I often reword text into more concise and understandable language, which can help students better comprehend the original version of the text. I also like to walk students through a sample problem and explain why a certain answer would be correct. This action helps them build a framework for similar problems in the future and also helps me identify areas they need more support in.
