As a student, I have found that students often fell in love with material through excellent teaching. I have experienced this myself as both an undergraduate and graduate student. The most engaging courses I have experienced as a student myself always involve a strong academic relationship between teacher and student, which naturally generates discussion. As a tutor, I seek to be engaging by coming alongside students, meeting them where they are, and walking forward together to pursue knowledge and wisdom. My lesson plans are typically a mix of lecture and questioning - I tend to favor the Socratic method when possible in order to encourage engagement and stimulation from the student. I place an emphasis on excellent writing; nothing demonstrates college readiness or prepares students to think deeply like mastery of the writing process.
I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for over a year at Ohio University, where I am responsible for lecturing, leading discussions, and grading student submissions. As a college admissions counselor, I read applications, evaluated student essays, interviewed students, and sought to help students submit competitive applications at an extremely competitive liberal arts college.
