My philosophy is that every English language learner deserves the absolute best individualized advice to improve their English skills, and I am committed to providing you with unmatched quality. I have a Master's degree in TESL and have taught ESL in many different colleges and universities to beginners and advanced PhD candidates. My goal is to empower you with the knowledge and skills you need to show your own uniqueness and brilliant ideas to the world - to help you achieve excellence!
My training and experience in teaching ESL ranges from TOEFL/IELTS prep, to academic writing revisions at undergraduate and graduate levels, to listening and speaking in authentic environments with native speakers. Since most of my students have studied English formally in some way in the past, I prefer to avoid boring drills and instead teach new ways to use the language in context that are typically under-taught but are very crucial in developing native-like proficiency!
Outside of private tutoring, I have also worked for many years at a top liberal arts college in the U.S. in the office of academic support. I've helped new undergraduate students make the big transition to U.S. professor and classroom expectations and behavior, and graduating students understand the American graduate educational system and how to properly select the best schools and prepare competitive applications. Preparing for and experiencing an American education is much more than just being able to speak the language - it's also understanding the values, assumptions, and behaviors of the culture, and figuring out how to still be yourself but also fit into the new culture.
Whatever your English language or college advising goals are, I'd be more than happy to create an individual plan for you to be as successful as possible! Please contact me to schedule a session at any time!
