Every first session is an introduction between myself and the student. This allows the student to not feel overwhelmed in their first learning session. It also allows me to figure out how to adjust my syllabus according to the student's individual needs.
Many of my previous students were of varying ages, from high-school to adult students. Many had wanted to learn Japanese, but had no access to a club or class that provided the learning experience they wanted. Being from a similar situation myself when first learning the language, knowing that I am helping them get the experience they want from the lessons makes me continue to want to teach.
