Teaching is something I've always been passionate about. I'm the kind of person that can teach the very basics of a subject repeatedly and still get excited when the ideas click in my students' heads. Over the years I've had the opportunity to teach different subjects in various capacities and roles. At the university level I have taught an undergraduate embedded electronics course and a course for incoming freshmen. I've also acted as mentor for various groups in areas of programming, electronics, and general making. This includes 3D printing and 3D model design, and I currently teach workshops several times each semester for electronics and programming with Arduino, Python and Raspberry Pi.

More than anything I love teaching people about the inner workings of the technology in our everyday lives. I love showing that computers and electronics are not magic but are in no way less magical. Few things are more enjoyable than showing someone that they can make something from a simple blinking light to a full blown home security system. Programming is the way to breathe life into your creations. Whether it's a simple computer game, web application or an internet connected device programming is how you make it all work and showing someone it's not as difficult as it might seem at first is a great thing.

I'm also an avid maker and love 3D printing. Whether it's designing something in Fusion360 to 3D print, in Illustrator to be made on a laser cutter, creating my own PCBs, the ability to create a complete project myself never ceases to fascinate and delight me. My kids love it too!

If you've encountered a subject that you think might be too difficult for you or you're at a point where you can't seem to make sense of something, please contact me. I'll do what I can to show you a different way of looking at it that might make more sense for you.

CSS

CSS

When I moved to developing web applications in React, I began to rely more on CSS and less on jQuery. I found that simple animations, mouse events and position of elements were easier to achieve in CSS as opposed to doing so in Javascript. In the past year or so I've really started to learn more about CSS and am still finding new ways to do interesting things in pure CSS.

I worked for a computer repair center for a university. My primary role was managing students and assisting with repairs, but while I was there I wrote several webapps to assist with streamlining such things on site visits and emails from customers. My work on these led to a future position with more of a focus on development.
Web Design

Web Design

On the networking team at my university, I was tasked with automating changes to network hardware, developing web apps to simplify frequent processes and write scripts to gather data and statistics from our networks across multiple campuses. Among my work were several web apps that allowed authorized people from outside of our department to make changes on their own that normally required assistance from one or more members of our team. These applications included one that gathered information for billing purposes and one that allowed our security team to make changes regarding specific users on our network.

Great person

Ron was great! I had a pretty complicated question that I was not really expecting an answer to however Ron worked with my issue and showed me a few ways to complete the task. Though none were specific answers to my exact concern he gave me multiple ideas and ways to complete the task. Great help and super friendly guy!

Great Tutor and Patient

Ron helped me a lot with my Arduino Related class project and was able to tackle a lot of the issues I faced with my project and find efficient solutions. I am grateful to have Ron as my tutor and highly recommend him.

Straight to the Point Quick Progress

I think Ron is genuinely a nice person that wants to help. He was very quick with getting me directed in the appropriate way to write my Arduino code. He even answered another follow up question by email. Highly recommend.

Excellent and High Knowledge

On a scale from 1 to 10, I place myself at 3 or 4. Could be higher but that's my ego speaking. I made my selection of who would tutor me from about 5 of their tutors who responded to my help request. From the start, Ron was friendly, asking questions to gain a better insight on what I was needing and ultimately, flipped me to another sensor from what I was planning on using. The PLUSES to the new sensor were enormous (simplicity of setup, better suited to what I was wanting, works under more conditions and surprising enough, was cheaper due to one sensor handling everything I had planned for 17 sensors to do. Very knowledgable, easy to talk to and most importantly to me, making sure my project would be a success. I still have work to go on this project and plan on continuing with him until completion and most likely further, since I now have someone to supply me guidance on this type of project. I highly recommend him!

Knowledgeale and Well-Rounded Tutor

In my initial meeting, I described in detail my target project. Ron patiently listened, and had the experience and knowledge to offer alternative hardware and software solutions. I was impressed with the scope of Ron's knowledge, and encouraged that Ron has a pretty extensive prototyping lab/workshop with 3D printing capability.

Arduino support

I am an older guy who needed someone to be a “go to” guy when I had a particular problem with an Arduino project. He performed admirably, adapting easily to my desired learning style.
