Hello and welcome to my profile! As a tutor here on Wyzant, I have a background in English, literature, and translation. I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in English and have a master’s degree in translation. As a writer, I have multiple years of experience with helping teenagers, college students, and adults sharpen and refine their writing and language skills. As a result of my master's degree, I also have two years of classroom experience as a university Spanish instructor, leading multiple class sections of more than 20 students through the initial stages of language acquisition.

Recently, I worked for a number of months as a writing consultant for Kent State University, helping students with essays, research, ideation, theses, dissertations, and personal statements for applications to graduate schools. Through this experience, my working methods drew on the thinking of twentieth-century psychologist Lev Vygotsky, who developed the important concept of the zone of proximal development. In this sense, I see my role as that of a collaborator completely attuned to your needs, helping you improve by pushing you beyond what you could accomplish by yourself and making you more independent in the process.

In consequence, my goal is always to bring out your very best. With time and gradual improvement, I aim to help you become more independent—perhaps even more capable than you could have imagined at the beginning of your journey. We do this lesson by lesson, developing useful methods for idea organization, research, composition, and editing multiple drafts of a paper.

Gradual improvement is always the ideal, and learning for me has always been a journey to be savored. There is little in the world more satisfying than helping people realize their own potential.
